Corticosteroid Injections in Knee OA Ineffective, Lead to Cartilage Loss

Treating knee osteoarthritis (OA) symptoms with a 40-mg intra-articular injection of the corticosteroid triamcinolone every three months for two years resulted in significantly greater cartilage volume loss and no significant difference in knee pain severity compared with placebo, according to a study in The Journal of the American Medical Association (2017;317:1967-1975).
