FDA Warns Against Codeine, Tramadol Use in Children Under 12

The FDA is restricting the use of multiple-ingredient medicines that contain codeine and all tramadol medications in children aged 12 years and younger.

“These medicines carry serious risks, including slowed or difficult breathing and death, which appear to be a greater risk in children younger than 12 years, and should not be used in these children,” according to a statement from the FDA. “These medicines should also be limited in some older children.”
