Anaheim, Calif.—Obesity and depression rise in tandem with the number of chronic overlapping pain conditions (COPCs), according to new research. Opioid prescriptions—compared with those for antidepressants and nonopioid pain drugs like gabapentin—also are more common in patients with greater numbers of COPCs.
The retrospective study included approximately 740,000 unique patients from the University of Michigan Health Service clinical database. First author Vy Phan, BS, used the
