New Orleans—Women are first authors on pain medicine studies far less often than men, but that is likely a reflection of the lack of diversity in the field at large, according to a meta-analysis published in Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine (2020;45:67-72). It’s the first of several studies that will quantify diversity in the pain medicine field and highlight the barriers that may be keeping certain demographic groups from equal representation.
