An analysis of more than 60 million emergency department (ED) visits by adults between 2007 and 2011 has revealed that white patients are more than twice as likely as black patients to receive prescriptions for opioid analgesics, highlighting apparent biases in pain management in the critical care setting.
In a study published by the journal PLOS ONE (2016;11:e0159224), researchers reviewed records from pain-related ED visits by U.S. adult, nonelderly patients presenting with pain over a
