Interprofessional Approach to Opioid Monitoring Can Reduce Respiratory Depression Risk

By using an interprofessional, educational line of attack to safe opioid monitoring, clinicians at Rush University Medical Center were able to increase their knowledge of sedation preceding respiratory depression and improve patient monitoring behaviors to reduce the incidence of opioid-induced respiratory depression, according to a project outlined in The Journal of Nursing Administration (2017;47:537-544).
