Insurance Status, Physician Input Affect Outcomes on Prenatal Care in Opioid-Dependent Mothers

Women of reproductive age are commonly prescribed opioids, and prescribing rates are consistently higher among women on Medicaid than those who are privately insured (MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep 2015;64:37-41). In addition, opioids can act as folic acid antagonists when they are taken up to two months before conception.
