A recent study published in JAMA Network Open (2024;7[10]:e2437977) found that rather than helping to reduce racial and ethnic biases in pain management, artificial intelligence may instead perpetuate and exacerbate disparities.
The study was led by Adam Rodman, MD, MPH, the director of AI Programs at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston.
In explaining why he chose to study pain assessment, Rodman said it is well documented in the medical literature that physicians undertreat Black
