Peripheral Nerve Stimulation as Treatment for Chronic Pain

Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) is a neuromodulatory technique used to manage chronic pain. It involves the "gate control theory," utilizing the placement of electrodes over or adjacent to peripheral nerves and the delivery of electrical impulses that alter the transmission of pain signals. 

Electrical stimulation is targeted to the A-beta fibers, which carry nonpainful stimuli in the peripheral
