Thoracic Epidural and Peripheral Nerve Blockade Found Best for Abdominal Surgery

Calgary, Alberta—Although systemic opioids, thoracic epidural anesthesia and continuous peripheral nerve blockade are all viable analgesic options for midline abdominal surgery, the latter two options proved superior to systemic opioids in reducing postoperative pain, a new systematic review and meta-analysis has concluded.
