San Antonio—For people with inflammatory bowel disease, inpatient use of opioids can be decreased dramatically with a systematic strategy to steer clinicians to alternative analgesics, according to the experience at two centers that tackled this problem with different approaches.
The centers implemented the strategies after establishing opioid-sparing protocols. One center used automated text alerts to remind providers to consider the updated pain management strategy, and the other relied
