Osteopathic Manipulation Shows Slight Benefit for Nonspecific Low Back Pain

Nonspecific low back pain can be a challenge to treat. A new study, published in JAMA Internal Medicine (2021;181[5]:620-630), found there may be a small benefit for these patients from osteopathic manipulation therapy (OMT). There are nuances to this study, including the differences in OMT in Europe and the United States, Steven Stanos, DO, the medical director of rehabilitation and performance medicine at Swedish Health System Pain Medicine and Services in Seattle, told Pain Medicine News.
