Comparative Trial Shows CBT Benefits Veterans With Post-Traumatic Headache

A randomized clinical trial found that headache disability among post-9/11 combat veterans with comorbid post-traumatic headache and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms was significantly improved with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) compared with traditional treatment for headache.

In contrast, cognitive processing therapy (CPT) did not improve headache beyond usual care.

“Most traumatic injuries sustained by military service members and veterans consist of more
