Patients with migraine with aura were more than twice as likely to develop venous thromboembolism (VTE) compared with those without headache, according to a recent study published in the journal Headache (2016;87:529-538).
“This finding is novel and reminiscent of the association between migraine and ischemic stroke in the literature,” said lead author Kuan-Po Peng, MD, attending physician and consulting neurologist at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, in Taiwan.
