A new study has concluded that gabapentinoids increase the risk for hip fractures, especially in older patients who are frail or have kidney disease.
According to study co-author Simon Bell, MD, the director of the Centre for Medicine Use and Safety (CMUS) at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in Parkville, Australia, gabapentinoids can be effective for neuropathic pain but can result in adverse events including dizziness, gait disturbance and balance disorder.
