Pain medication tapering (PMT) in patients with chronic noncancer pain (CNCP) has mainly targeted reduction in harm from drug dependence or adverse effects, but a recent review and meta-analysis links decreasing medication with reduction in chronic pain and related anxiety and depression (Br J Anaesth 2024;133[5]:998-1020).
“PMT is an effective and feasible therapeutic approach for patients suffering from CNCP,” said principal investigator Maarten Moens, MD, PhD, and colleagues at
