Infants who breastfeed from a mother who has filled an opioid prescription to treat postpartum pain are no more likely to be readmitted to a hospital than babies who breastfeed from mothers not prescribed opioid analgesics, according to the results of a recent study.
The study included mother–infant pairs discharged from the hospital between Sept. 1, 2012, and March 31, 2020, in Ontario (BMJ 2023;380:e074005).
